Are you aware of the eternal struggle between plagiarism detection software and rogeting tools? If you don't, we strongly suggest to take a look at this post, where we explained how both of these algorithm-based techniques actually work.
In this follow-up article, we'll enumerate a bunch of free plagiarism detection software available nowadays that could help you to better deal with non-original abstracts as well as with the most common (and counterable) rogeting techniques. Some of these tools are desktop-based solutions that can be installed on-premise, while others are released as Software as a Service (SaaS): both of them can be used for free in their basic form and/or with paid licenses or subscription plans to overcome some limitations and/or gain additional features.
New York Essays Plagiarism Checker
This plagiarism checker released by newyorkessays.com is a free, web-based SaaS that can be used with any browser. In a nutshell, it's a modern online essay checker on plagiarism that can be used by writers and academics to evaluate the level of originality. The detection phase will take 1 to 2 minutes, depending on the quantity of submitted text. At the end of the scan process, the software will output a detailed plagiarism report that provides the percentage of authenticity. In our opinion, it works quite well and it proved itself to be capable to find all plagiarism we tested. Needless to say, it's optimized for academic-level essays.
Plagiarism Detector
This is a completely free plagiarism checker SaaS that allows their users to perform unlimited scans without size or time limitations. All you need to do is just copy and paste your content within a text area and hit the Check Plagiarism button. There are also two textboxes which can be used to exclude or include specific URIs from the check, which can be very useful if you are checking something that has been published multiple times or if you need to scan for a target website.

Grammarly’s plagiarism checker is a completely free web-based tool that will detect plagiarism in your submitted text and check for other writing issues. PaperRater's Plagiarism Checker
If you love simple, yet effective tools, this Plagiarism Checker can be a good choice. Again, you can choose between copy-pasting your text into a text area or directly upload a file. The base service is free, however there is a text size cap - which can be removed if you choose to subscribe to their premium service ($3.48/mo), which - needless to say - allows longer submissions as well.
Plagiarismhunt
This platform allows you to check paper with 5 different plagiarism software just in one click, in one "cross-platform" website. This can be very convenient, because you won't need to register on many different websites and try all of them. Your file will be checked for free with one random plagiarism software: you will have to pay $45 to check with all available plagiarism checkers on platform. After you receive all results, you can compare which plagiarism scanner detected most of plagiarism and work with that tool further. Furthermore, a detailed report where all plagiarized text is marked in color is available to see for additional $6.
Dupli Checker
This service is frequently mentioned as one of the most effective free plagiarism detection tools on the Internet: although it definitely gets the job done well, it comes with major limitations for its free usage: 1000 words per search and 1 search per day (50 searches if you accept to register your account for free): if you can deal with them, you'll have a good time using it!
CopyLeaks
CopyLeaks is a cloud-based authentication platform that enables their users to track how eLearning content is being used all around the Internet. It's great for either education/academic and business usage, providing two different and dedicated sections to achieve the best of both worlds. The platform itself is super-friendly and it can deal with various file formats and all unicode languages: there's even a mobile app along with an MS Office add-on, which can be used to check for plagiarisms as you are writing a document on MS Word. Unfortunately, all this good stuff comes with some usage limitations: sign up required; free searches are limited to the first 10 pages of any document and to a grand total of 2500 words per months. If you want more, you'll have to subscribe to one of their plans - starting from $9,99 per month to check up to 25,000 words without day limit. Great, yet fairly expensive.
Plagiarisma
Ah, if these UI could even talk... well, despite the ugliness, Plagiarisma does a really great plagiarism detection job since 2010 - and it does that for free. It supports 191 different languages (!) and a greath bunch of text documents: TXT, HTML, RTF, MS WORD DOC, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, XLS, PDF, ODT, EPUB, FB2. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to CopyScape or TurnItIn (which you won't find in this list, since they're not free) you've found the right tool for you!
Edubirdie's Plagiarism Check
EduBirdie is yet another plagiarism detection web-based tool with some unique features that are definitely worth a try. You can input the title and the text in two different textboxes (they will be scanned separately); you can choose the type of the text you're about to lookup for plagiarism: Essay, Web Site Content, Resume or Other. It also comes with a really cute logo/testimonial (an academic birdie!) and a neat YouTube video explaining what the product is all about in 90 seconds. Highly recommended!
Plagramme
Last but not least comes Plagramme, a plagiarism checker that introduces an highly sophisticated scoring system with multiple metrics: similarity, plagiarism risk, paraphrase, bad citations, matched parts, and so on. The free edition comes with all the test scores unlocked, yet with some limitation to the words scanned and uploaded documents; the paid one features unlimited usage and also some additional services/features, as well as some tips and insights.
Conclusion
The web and the modern technologies have given us access to tons of data, yet original ideas tend to become rarer and rarer: in a world where everyone replicates other people's ideas and try to sell them as their own, it's really important to distinguish between original content, accurate or loosely inspired content, replicas or reworks. Plagiarism detection tools can definitely help to achieve such goal without having to sustain huge costs... especially when they are free to use!
